Ka Pae Ranasingam Movie Review – Strong performances with a poised storyline of common man’s tryst with mammoth authorities.

Ka Pae Ranansingam Amazon Prime is a political drama that depicts the struggles faced by a middle class family. Vijay Sethupathi (Ranasingam) and Aishwarya Rajesh (Ariyanachi), the popular film actors played the leading role in the movie. The movie begins with Ariyanachi knowing her husband’s death during the ear-piercing ceremony of their daughter. There begins the flashback of Ariyanachi and Ranasingam’s life story.

Ranasingam and Ariyanachi’s life begins in a small village in Ramanathapuram. Their love story turns into a marriage and they lead a happy life which did not last for a long time due to the realistic problems faced in the community. Ranasingam is a revolutionary person who fights for his community for the basic facilities. His main struggle was for water scarcity in the village.

During the protest, he made a statement that future politics will be based on air and water rather than caste and religion. The women in the village had to travel a long distance for collecting the drinking water whereas an electricity company used one lakh liter water per day for washing the plates. He initiated a protest for acquiring the drinking water in his village and the collector comes to resolve them. There Ranasingam speaks on behalf of the entire community. Finally, a check dam is constructed in the village upon the collector’s permission but still not in use. Ariyanachi inquires Ranasingam, “ Are you not afraid of the consequences of the revolutionary protests?”. He replies to Ariyanachi with a smiling face, “ Never be afraid of acquiring the basic needs of life” and gave one of his redshirt to her to boost up her confidence.

Ariyanachi convinces Ranasingam that they have a life beyond the revolutionary protests and he decides to go abroad i.e, Dubai for his work.

The flashback comes to an end. Ariyanachi tries to bring her husband’s body to their hometown from Dubai. But she faces a lot of struggles for bringing Ranasingam’s body. She seeks the help of the Village Administrator Officer and then the Collector, Registrar of their hometown. But she could not succeed in her motive and she determines to go to Chennai. The minister’s arrival at the Napier’s bridge captured the eye’s of Ariyanachi. She laid down in front of the minister’s car and reported all of her sufferings to the minister and seeks for help. The minister helps her and took a selfie with her and uploads it on Twitter which goes viral. This brought notice to many people about her sufferings.

With all her final hope and courage she decides to go to Delhi. She meets the Prime minister at a dam opening ceremony and seeks his help to bring back her husband’s body to India. Finally, all her struggles and sufferings are paid back by bringing her husband’s body to India through the Prime minister’s recommendation to the Dubai government. When Ranasingam’s body arrived at the Airport, simultaneously the Dam gets opened and the water splashed through the walls of the Bridge. When the body arrived at the village, there was heavy rain and there was a huge crowd filled with tears and sorrow. In the meanwhile, Ariyanatchi dressed up with the silk saree and flowers on her head to complete the final rituals.

Ranasingam’s body was taken to the crematorium. When they were crossing the check dam which was constructed by Ranasingam and his crew members, it was filled with water. This depicts the victory of his protest. At the crematorium, during the final funeral function, there was a tradition widely followed in the village where wife gets a coin from her dead husband’s hand. While doing this ritual, Ariyanachi finds that there was no tattoo named “Ariyanachi” in Ranasingam’s hand and finds out that it was not her husband’s body. With all anger and frustration, she leaves the place by signing all the documents and goes back to her house. She sits before her husband’s photo and cries “Sorry mama”. The story ends with a body with a tattoo “Ariyanachi” floating in one of the Dubai ocean.

Script

This movie gives the complete struggle faced by a middle class women who lost her husband in a foreign country and bring back his dead body to her hometown. The script was very well depicted.

Acting

Vijay Sethupathi played a vital role in the movie and justified his character. He let his co-actor Aishwarya Rajesh to play the lead role which added more weightage to the movie. Aishwarya Rajesh has done amazing work by living in the character given to her.

Music

The music was composed by Ghibran and the background music added weightage to the movie. The music made us feel heavy-hearted without our knowledge. The lyrics were written by Vairamuthu.

Cinematography, Special Effects &Editing

The cinematography was done by N K Ekambaram and edited by T Sivanadeeswaran. The overall effects were very well presented and gave a better experience to the audience.

Direction

The movie was written and directed by P Virumaandi and the dialogues were written by Shanmugam Muthusamy. Virumaandi portrayed the play very well and was brave enough to bring this issue in this political scenario.
