Ginny Weds Sunny Review – Where is the plot?

Ginny Weds Sunny Netflix movie is not only an epitome of miscasting, but it is also equally heart-breaking for the binge watchers of Netflix. Sunny is a man who is sexually inexperienced—well is it absolutely mandatory to become sexually experienced before marriage? Will the society not accept a man who did not feel the need to experience sex or intimacy with the opposite gender, or even the same gender until he finds the interest to? Why is sexual inexperience so frustrating in India? Well, that’s not definitely for a character who focuses on making Tik Tok videos as part of his sincere hobbies.

Ginny is a young lady—who is smart, beautiful and “intelligent”. Ginny’s mom likes Sunny and wants him to hook up with her daughter. Following the will of Ginny’s mom, Sunny starts reaching out to Ginny at every place she sets her foot . If it happened with ladies today giving the condition of the nation, complaints and pepper spray would have followed. But since it is a sugar candy love story, Ginny actually SMILES IT AWAY. And there the heart of millions of Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey fans, actually shatter into bits, pieces, granules and powder. And they are left with one question: Why?

Ginny Weds Sunny is a story about how a group of not-the-best cops become the fate changer of the city of Mumbai.

Script

The script of Ginny Weds Sunny complements the plot quite well. Just as the plot fades off the even the frails colours of logic and common sense of reactions, the script also goes along with cheesy dialogues and minimal work on diction.

Acting

Vikrant Massey—an actor who gifted us gems like Mirzapur, Criminal Justice and even short films like Half-Full is a complete misfit for the insubstantial character of Sunny. And the difficulty he experiences in portraying such a character often becomes visible through his performance on screen. Yami Gautam also faces the same issue. Her work in Vicky Donor, Kaabil, Batti Gul Meter Chaalu and of course Uri: The Surgical Strike shows no match with her choice of Ginny Weds Sunny. With profound wekness in the plot and the script, the actors are left to do a lot—but when the boat has a large hole, even the most efficient boatsmen can’t help drowning. And that’s what exactly happens with Ginny Weds Sunny.

Music

Ginny Weds Sunny has put a lot of unnecessary focus on long song and dance numbers. Music in a film or series is important, but its primary importance lies in its connection to the context of the film. That undoubtedly is not paid much attention upon by Gaurav Chatterji, Payal Dev and Jaan Nissar Lone as the music composers of Ginny Weds Sunny.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

Nuthan Nagaraj managed to make the cinematography of Ginny Weds Sunny a somewhat delectable ingredient in an otherwise bland sauce free Chinese dish. Sandeep Sethy also worked well as the editor of Ginny Weds Sunny.

Direction

Well, this is the most important aspect of any project. Puneet Khanna could have actually done a much better work altogether given the cast and other crew members. But he underutilised the resources to a massive extent. Sunny—a young smart lad who has issues in speaking in English doesn’t have a continuity over his own accent. While he mispronounces words like “restaurant”, there are a lot of words higher in intricacy, that are spoken by Sunny with an elite accent. Such massive miss-outs at this level and with these casting members have expectedly put a grave impact on the film. A caramel love story can be garnished in many aspects—those aspects required a lot of attention from the director of Ginny Weds Sunny.
