Unpaused Movie Review – A potential film with the lack of directorial seasoning

Watching Unpaused movie online on Amazon might not be a mind-boggling experience. But when the human souls are canopied with gloom and monotony of the pandemic, Unpaused gives a good story to take a look at. Love, hope and solitude—these are the three pillars on which Unpaused stands. It is an anthology of 5 stories that are funny, quirky but at the same time, are closely connected to reality.

Glitch is the first of the five stories. Putting briefly, Glitch is dystopian. The primary storyline is set in the backdrop of the year 2030. Here, the virus is portrayed to be a terrorist. Human beings as a whole have become hostiles now and are under the captivity of the virus. But there’s a ray of hope—a desire to survive and struggle for existence.

The Apartment deals with a beautiful depiction of the issue of mental health. Devika is the wife of a renowned journalist and she suffers from depression and anxiety—a not-so-rare combination. During the curfew, Devika’s husband gets accused of sexually assaulting women and soon her world starts to collapse as she becomes confused about what should be given more priority.

Rat-a-Tat is another serene story where a 65-year-old single woman gets connected to a relatively young, broke woman who lives in the same building. And this connection happens just through a rat.

In Vishaanu, Manish and Seema portray the plight of migrant workers in the most beautiful way. This is a story of hope where no matter what sort and kind of unavoidable circumstances come into play, life truly remains Unpaused.

Chand Mubaarak is a story of solace, it’s a story of belief. Rafiq is an auto-driver. But he tries his best and goes out of his way to help out Uma. In addition to the congregation of subtle moments, the names of the two central characters spark off a brilliant essence of religious harmony in the story.

Unpaused Movie Amazon Prime Trailer

Unpaused is an anthology that speaks of compassion, that speaks of hope and faith. Let’s take a look at different aspects of the movie.

Script: The script of Unpaused stands out to be one of the finest scripts of contemporary Indian cinema. The soul aim of the script of Unpaused is to portray the innate emotions of people through different characters without making it a soggy drama. The script had a lot of punch with perfect dose of humour.

Acting: Gulshan Devaiah did a splendid job as Ahan Awasti. He truly slipped into the skin of the character. Richa Chadha as Devika, proved through her performance that how justly an underrated actress she is. Her performance sculpted out Devika in the brightest possible way. She is undoubtedly the perfect choice for the character of Devika. Rinku Rajguru was awesome in her approach towards the character of Priyanka. Lillete Dubey also did a great work as Archana.

Music: Shishir Samant was amazing in composing the music for Amazon Prime release Unpaused. Background scores suited the scenes in the best possible way.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing: Cinematography by Pankaj Kumar and Jay Oza could have been better. A little more lucidity was required in the visuals. Editing also was very abrupt almost in each of the stories. A little more effort could have come from Dharmendra Kakarala as the editor of the film.

Direction: Nikkhil Advani, Avinash Arun, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Krishna D.K. , Nitya Mehra and Raj Nidimoru form a very good directorial team for Unpaused. With good concept and even better execution—Unpaused is a treat to the soul. However, certain endings were abrupt in nearly each of the stories. Nonetheless, Unpaused is a good film to watch, especially to detox the soul of the viewers from the monotony of life.
