Shrikant Bashir Review – An awful admixture of issues, addressing none in particular.

Shrikant Bashir Web Series is quite messy in its approach. The story states that a group of terrorists plans to release a deadly man-made virus in India, causing a life threat to countless people of the nation. Shrikant Mhatre and Bashir Khan are officers and colleagues who come together to investigate and restrict this issue in the Surgical Operations Team (SOT).

But the story just begins here. Although the title Shrikant Bashir reflects a notion that the two individuals must be great friends and working as a team, the reality is just the opposite. The title Shrikant Bashir should actually be interpreted as Shrikant Versus Bashir. This is because, both of these individually potential officers can’t stand the sight of each other. They stand to be the Karan Arjun of Mahabharata. Bashir Khan is an officer who believes in following the law just as his Quran. So, even if he had professional conflict and personal disgrace with Shrikant, he abided by the rules and regulations keeping in mind the decorum of the SOT. But Shrikant on the other hand continued to purposely outwit Bashir with his street-smart attitude. Being portrayed as the heartthrob of women, Shrikant Mhatre for quite a long time ignored the bigger purpose and aim of the SOT, thereby neglecting the huge impact that the attack is about to cause in the nation. This starts off the mess, projecting a highly impractical situation for an officer like Shrikant, who solves cases in an out-of-the-book methodology—a methodology with no defined method in it.

  • Pooja Gaur as Raveena Sahni
  • Ashmita Jaggi as Chandrika Bakshi
  • Imran Javed as Ajit Verma
  • Tareeq Ahmed Khan as Hafizullah
  • Gashmeer Mahajani as Shrikant Mhatre
  • Yudhishthir Singh as Bashir Khan

Shrikant Bashir attempts at portraying a lot of issues that exist in the society. But due to poor execution and lack of binding, the series falls apart.

Script

The script of Shrikant Bashir complements the plot quite well. In terms of dialects and diction, the script defines the characters with good work of detailing. But there was definitely a good lack of punch and substance. While Shrikant was good with his dialogue content, Bashir was too flat. He could be given lesser dialogues with more weightage to them.

Acting

Gashmeer Mahajani has done absolutely no justice to the character of Shrikant Mhatre. His body language was absolutely cool and casual. Undoubtedly Shrikant was street-smart. But smartness involves a lot of seriousness as well, wherever required. Smartness is all about the perfect blend of sweet and serious depending on the situations. Another factor that should have chiefly governed the character of Shrikant is the comic timing. Gashmeer failed miserable there as well. Yudhishthir Singh was somewhat better as Bashir Khan, but definitely, the character of Bashir required a lot more weightage than what it got from Singh. It’s not that Yudhishthir Singh was very good; it’s just that Gashmeer’s under-performance made Yudhishthir appear good with Bashir Khan. The supporting cast, though comparatively better, was also not up to the mark for a series like Shrikant Bashir with such an intense theme.

Music:

Music in Shrikant Bashir was a little on the unpredictable note. While action thrillers of this type depend a lot on the course of background scores and theme music, Shrikant Bashir had an unexpected orchestra of Indian classical instruments, which was not a good fit for the situation in which they were used.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

While cinematography of the series was still better as compared to other aspects, editing was no less than a horrendous experiment. With 26 episodes, Shrikant Bashir should actually not be called a web series, but a miShrikant Bashir Sony Liv Review Pakaooni-TV serial. And so many episodes, with unnecessary dragging of situations reflecting a lot of inessential dramatization, simply dug the grave for the series a few inches deeper.

Direction

Santosh Shetty lacked the minute approach towards the direction of Shrikant Bashir. The characterisation was also on the poor side. As a result, even with potential performers, the series became another name for a patience tester.
