Project 9191 web series 2021 on Sony Liv is nothing but an unrefined reminisce of popular shows of Hollywood like Line of Duty. JCP Amitabh forms from the police forms a special unit called 9191, where 9191 is a toll free number that anyone can call at, and inform about anything which doesn’t seem to be right. This takes us back to the days where Crime Patrol was a regular watch and it would say—“Har Jurm Hone Se Pehle Dastak Deta Hai. Dhyan Se Suniyega”. And that’s the awareness that 9191 wanted to bring out in the people.
From the days of Galileo questioning Copernicus, to the days of introducing a special unit for nurturing public awareness and preventing crime to the best possible extent, anything new in the world is always opposed by the existing. Beginning with a couple of false alarms and unwanted headache for the ministry, 9191 was on the verge of extinction with just a threshold period of a month. And just then, a series of cases came by—some genuine, some not as expected. But all were interesting, with layers of truth and tales.
The team had a leading JCP, whose command was the final word. A senior member addressed as Chacha by the rest. Looking at the oil-burnt marks on his daughter’s face gifted by her husband, Chacha sometimes got personal with cases. Deepa, another potential member, joined 9191 to keep herself so busy that she could eventually forget the demise of her husband in police on a Naxalite attack. Pankaj is known for getting bribed but has a clear soul. Sharat, the most efficient of the lot, is here to please JCP so that he defends Sharat in the enquiry that is currently going on against him for a false encounter. With people having different agenda, a hacker is also in place to take care of the tracking and locating part of investigation in Project 9191.

Project 9191 web series has focussed the least on execution. And therein lies the primary faulty area of the series.
Script
The script of Project 9191 web series Sony Liv doesn’t have much to do in terms of artistic value. But what still worked well for the series was the bits and pieces of conversations between each of the members of the team.
Acting
There’s nothing much to be told about Satyajit Sharma’s performance. His command over the character, his immense regulation over the script is well-manifested throughout the series. Casting for Project 9191’s JCP could not be any perfect. Trishna Mukharjee is adequately substantial to the character of Deepa. Her silence and voice modulation gives the character a good shape. Vaibhav Tatwawaadi delivers his part with excellence and confidence balanced on the wheel of delectable performance.
Music: Dhaval Tandon’s approach to the music is undoubtedly appreciable. However, there was much more that could be done in making the music more suitable to the plot and ambience of the series.
Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing
Cinematography of the series by Lucky Yadav and Chandrakant Yadav could have pulled through very well but lacked better planning. Editing by Charu Takkar was not complementing enough for Project 9191.
Direction
Rush—that’s the keyword defining the fault in direction committed by Subbu Iyer, the director of Project 9191. Too much stuffed up too soon, resulting in indigestion and ultimately throwing up in a big mess—that was the main issue which stood as a barrier to the success of Project 9191 as a whole. Narrative generally simplifies the plot. But here, it did just the opposite. Complexity in the case was missing; instead it was present to the fullest in the behaviour of the characters. However, Project 9191 is a good and unique approach, which unfortunately fell prey to a negative ending, much contradictory to the spirit of the series with an abrupt conclusion.
