Kuruthi Kalam 2021 Review – A repeated and predictable Gangster tale.

It is a typical story but with some good parts like Characterization, screenplay etc. The story is about two friends who work for a gangster, gangster passes away to pass on his reigns to two friends Venkatesh and Moorthy.
Pannerselvam who is the sincere subordinate of the gangster, is disappointed by the fact that he was not considered as a right person to take his spot, to take the revenge he tries to create a rift between two friends, the friends fall prey to his plot, the politicians, cops all of them take the advantage of this situation and it is a mess finally.
Never ending gang wars happen between the two friends, also a lot of bloodshed, who is going to be the ruler? Who is going to succeed forms the rest of the story.

Many of the actors who are in supporting role but in small roles, have done an excellent job. Vijay in the movie is very impressive and gave a solid performance and used the screen time wisely. Vincent role as gangster is very impressive; straight from heart. sounder raja’s role as cop is good and has played shrewd cop very well.
Srikanth and Ashok as Tapori guys adds a commercial touch to film. Sanam shetty has a short but good role.
Kuruthi kalam is a story like that of Mirzapur and rangbaaz, glorifying the Venegance, Humanising Notorious acts, exploring psyche etc.
Ignoring the carassness the kuruthi kalam is another Mirzapur, the directors Rajapandi and Dhanush have ensured that they understood the politics and the insecurities with in gang well and made sure characters are well tailored.
The love story between Vijay and Maheshwari is a good addition to the gangster story and gels well.
The movie is very predictable most of the times, unconventional storytelling, strong emotional punch in the story, elaborate backstories, men as rulers, making no mistakes also forms the part of the story. Women are seen as underdog in the film, not much to say about them, it is a 13 episodes, with 6hours run time entertainment.
Music by Chengulakshmi, Ravi raghav, Sathis selvam,is not very appreciable and is quite obvious, not much to look forward or even remember and hum for a long time. Background music is just tolerable, nothing much to say.
Rajapandi, Mohan Dhanush, Vignesh karthick are the writing team for the film, who do not deviate much from the gangster tale and much of the ideas are set in a time Wrap. Characterisation of the movie is the strong part of the movie, and played an important part for the success of the film majorly.
Vijay Ananth’s cinematography lacks the visual appeal, if done well could have been the major attraction for the film, and would have added a classic touch to the entire film.
Verdict
The movie is a run of the mill story, but can be enjoyed if you like gangster based stories.
