Oru Pakka Kathai Review – A different film with food for thought.

Oru Pakka Kadhai movie is a story about a very uncommon incident .Yet the movie is depicted with absolute natural treatment.

The story revolves around two families and the unexpected and very mystic situation they are in. It begins with two young lovers from their childhood days , follows them while they are studying in college , and eventually are to be married. Both the families know about their love and are just waiting for the boy to secure a job and get settled.

The twist in the story is when the girl gets pregnant in an unusual way.What is it? Is there a mystery behind it? How are the families going to deal with it? How the society responds to it, forms the story of Oru Pakka Kadhai Amazon Prime.

The film brings upon a lot of themes like religion, faith, science and abortion. It is purely a family drama. It has lot of dark humour to counter the bizarre incident of the movie, which is what makes it special. The dark humor technique is very good from initial to before end. In the last scenes, it fades, which makes the movie a little dull towards the climax.

Performances

Kalidas Jayaram has till date picked up different roles and lived up to them. This is one of the fine performances by him. He takes up the role and enacts it with entire grace, which is his USP. Meera’s role is small but she plays well with whatever is given to them, both the actors being young, could connect with their role and could bring forth the insecurities of the role well.

Story & Screenplay

Many of the scenes and characters are relatable in movie. Some scenes enacted by Sarvanan are really grounding like, when a god man from stage calls Sarvanan , he goes up to him and asks him with complete unawareness of what may happen next, as what may I do for you?

Film is filled with dark humour some in actions and some in words, sometimes the way Sarvanan acts, we feel he is himself a miracle child.

The movie has its shares of criticism too, for the story itself. Scenes like Meera’s offensive behaviour towards a RJ, upon being asked some objectionable question. It is heartbreaking to see the godman’s reaction, and how much knowledge a common man has to stand up against such issues.

The subplot about a young kid who believes he is a god is amusing. How the director ties it with the main plot is great. All the child artists have given great performances. The film at the end talks about what is the directors philosophy but lacks the energy. Predictable scenes are many but are watchable.

All the characters in Balaji’s film are mild and have meaningful roles which are the best part of his direction. This film talks about the people and may take one step here and there, but at the end it all ends well.

Balaji is one of the finest directors in Tamil industry and is very capable of bringing fresh idea film with a very unheard subjects to screen. We may definitely look forward for more such unique stuff from him.

Music

Background music by Govind vasantha creates a light atmosphere.

Verdict

It’s a different film with lot of new things can be definitely watched once. As it’s a family drama it can be watched with entire family.
