Pati Patni Aur Panga Review – An off track story hitting hard on face with a reality check

Pati Patni Aur Panga on MX Player 2020 is a series that resides far away from predictability. Romanchak Arora aka Romu is based in Mumbai and runs a busines of providing rented accommodations for paying guests. His mom and dad are shown to be very progressive, who discuss sex with their one and only 28-year-old son, who has had no girlfriend so far.

Instead, he has a good friendship with hi collegemate Jeetu. Romu’s mom gets nightmares that her son would turn into a gay someday. But things change when Shivani Bhatnagar, a single lady from Indore visits Romu’s office to look for a single room in Mumbai. But even in the 21^st century, people in a metropolitan like Mumbai, still hesitate to provide accommodation to a single young woman. But in this search operation for flats and PGs, Shivani observes that Romu never judges a woman based on her marital status.

He has a good heart and is actually afraid that girls like Shivani, who wish to accomplish something larger in life than perfect chapattis, would fall short of courage in front of the societal pressure. While Romu likes Shivani for her looks and perfect figure, Shivani also likes Romu, but her liking is more on the emotional side.

On Jeetu’s suggestion and the consent of Romu’s parents, Romu decides to provide a spare room in his own house as a paid accommodation to Shivani. His parents are finally happy and relieved to see Romu getting interested in girls, which he actually was from the beginning but didn’t express much. Post a couple of physical encounters, they get married. Shivani had made it clear that her parents had passed away during childhood and she had a brother named Shiv, who died in a car accident earlier this year. This was well accepted in Romu’s family.

However, Jeetu finds something very strange while looking at the photographs of Romu’s marriage. There is absolutely no relative or no friend who attended the wedding from Shivani’s side. On investigating this strange issue further, Shivani confesses that she had no brother called Shiv. She herself was Shiv a few months back. Although Shiv was physically a boy, he had the soul of a female. From childhood to college life, Shiv had always been ridiculed and looked down upon with a societal unacceptance. So, he decided to take a sex re-assignment surgery and physically become a girl. But the only limitation that Shivani’s body had as a woman, was that she could never ever conceive.

As soon as her truth gets revealed, Romu’s life turns upside down. He continued to imagine that he shared intimacy with Shiv and not Shivani. Finally, he files a divorce against Shivani and then the case is dragged to court.

Pati Patni Aur Panga is a tale of truth, addressing a practical problem that India as a country has to seriously think about.

Script: The script of Pati Patni Aur Panga web series MX Player undoubtedly has a lot of punch and good substance to complement the well-designed and perfectly characterised story of the series. The dialect, although monotonous at places, but absolutely substantiating, coupled very well with the backdrop of the series.

Acting: In Pati Patni Aur Panga web series, Adah Sharma is undoubtedly the star of the show. She slips with ease into the skin of the character and slowly sculpts it out in the best possible way. Naveen’s excellent delivery as Romu will keep the viewers glued throughout. Hiten Tejwani did a very good job along with the other casting members of Pati Patni Aur Panga.

Music: Of all aspects of MX Player new web series Pati Patni Aur Panga, music ruled the show. Ranajoy Bhattacharjee and Kshitij Jarey did an excellent work as far as the music of the series was concerned. The melody had a lot of tenderness and serenity that gave a different dimension to the show.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing: The cinematography of Pati Patni Aur Panga was absolutely enthralling. The work of camera was excellent with very good angles of shot. Abhimanyu Sengupta as the DOP of Pati Patni Aur Panga did a great job. Sandeep Kurup also did a good work as the editor of Pati Patni Aur Panga.

Direction: Pati Patni Aur Panga is based on a theme which requires a lot of courage. It is needless to say that Abir Sengupta as the director, had a detailed approach as far as the direction of the series is concerned. However, a little more attention to the basics could have made it all the more realistic. In today’s date, if a man connects to a woman on Facebook, especially when he is interested in her, he would definitely notice the number of friends that the lady has on her profile, now matter how crazy the man goes for the lady. Nonetheless, Pati Patni Aur Panga has got entertainment, emotions and inspiration—a perfect blend to light up the hearts of its viewers.
