High web series has a theme that is currently running as the favorite theme of the Indian web series makers. Except a few gems like Panchayat and Bandish Bandits, most series makers have somehow gathered a notion these days that anything on the side of underworld and drugs, glazed with the extra topping of gangster tales can make their projects the best.

If one randomly hears or reads the name of this web series, it is somewhat difficult to comprehend the theme of the series. But if one is familiar with the current trending subject of Indian web series, then high on Drugs become easy to connect. But where lies the difference?

Well, drugs are often shown to be associated with the negative side of the world. But MX Player new web series 2020 differs in this case. The story is about a search—the search for a wonder drug which can actually save the world. With momentous discovery, the story takes its own pace with phenomenal characterisation. Shiv Mathur is a kind-hearted druggie. He decides to fetch up a secret group with three doctors—Dr. Shridhar Roy, Dr. Shweta and Dr. Nakul. The team gets busy making a potion, on consumption of which, the world can change. But then again, gangsters and mobsters have to make their way to any web series these days. And with a great theme, this series fell quite low in the surge of mediocrity.

Given the uniqueness and touch of innovation in the theme of High, the series actually had a huge possibility. But then, sometimes it is not just better but actually necessary to derail from the track of predictability and popularity.

Script

The script of this series is a completely customized script specially designed for the characters. The script is so well-written that the characters don’t need any element of narration to bring out the real definition of the story. Dialects also stand in perfection.

Acting

In this web series, Akshay Oberoi leads the crew with excellent acting skills and immense grip over the character. His dialogue delivery is so good that it’s difficult to distinguish the actor from the character at places. Prakash Belawadi, Nakul Bhalla and Shweta Basu Prasad—simply outstanding performance as the three doctors of the secret group. The casting crew was brilliant and projected the best of team work that High required.

Music

Ninad Lad and Dipanjan Guha worked quite well in developing the music and background scores for High. However, a little more variation in the melody, could have added to the real colour of the series.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

With K.U. Mohanan and John Jacob Payyapalli as the Directors of Photography, the cinematography of High was completely bewitching. From scenic beauty to the work of light and shades, visuals were at their best. Shivkumar V. Panicker could have been a sharper an editor but his work gelled quite well with the cinematography. However, 9 episodes were could be a lot more for the nifty audience.

Direction

High is based on a theme on which several projects have been made across India. What backed in this somewhat monotonous production is the tinge of newness that comes with the motto of the secret group. The colour palette exhibited throughout the series with the forgotten greyscale as the tone of flashback was beyond just amazing. But as far as direction is concerned, Nikhil Rao could have surely paid a little more attention to the minute details. It was a good idea to take the audience back to the flicks of 70s, but the execution definitely lacked continuity.
