Torbaaz Movie Review – A game can transform lives, if played fair
Torbaaz on Netflix does not hold the story of a man who is in search of the zest of life. Torbaaz is more of a dramatized documentary of the war-torn condition of the country of Afghanistan. There are numerous films and series that have been made on the subject of terrorist attacks in India. Coming to the series of State of Siege: 26/11 on Zee5, it was delineated with minute details, how innocent souls are captured in the trap of misleading Jihad, and are groomed to plan terror attacks in different parts of the world. Just to establish their supremacy around the globe. Torbaaz shows a somewhat similar condition in Afghanistan, where the Talibans mislead innocent families in the name of Jihaad and convert them into trained suicide bombers.
Nasser Khan is a former doctor, who had his career in the army. During his years in the army, he lost his family, his wife and son in a blast, that was caused by a suicide bomber. After he retires from work, Nasser Khan returns to his homeland and decides to help out his friend Ayesha. Ayesha runs an NGO that works for the war-affected families. In the process, Nasser meets a group of kids who are cricket enthusiasts. Nasser reminisces his golden days when he had interest in cricket and began to groom these bunch of kids to a potential cricket team.

Torbaaz Trailer
Torbaaz is a film built wisely on the philosophy of the game.
Script
The script of Torbaaz complements the plot quite well. In terms of dialects and diction, the script defines the characters with good work of detailing. The script also upheld the justification of the special touch of makeup and costumes used in Torbaaz. There was punch, there was substance, and most importantly, there was context in the script.
Acting
As far as Sanjay Dutt’s performance is concerned, a lot more is expected from him. While Sadak 2 was a complete morose experience for the viewers, Torbaaz was definitely much better. But it lacked the special seasoning of the Sanjay Dutt charisma that we last got in Panipat of 2019. Nargis Fakhri had almost no-good dialogue to deliver. Rahul Dev made a good attempt, but he was not a complete success in holding the balance of performances in Torbaaz.
Music
With Bickram Ghosh and Vikram Montrose as the men behind music, melody simply ran through the soul of Torbaaz. Good music was actually a relief from the blandness of the performances that dominated Torbaaz.
Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing
Hiroo Keswani as the DOP of Torbaaz did a great job as far as the cinematography of the film is concerned. Dilip Deo did a good work as the editor of Torbaaz.
Direction
Girish Malik required a better directorial approach for a film like Torbaaz. The combo of terror and cricket was undoubtedly unique, but execution was long and bland, with the lack of a good supporting cast. The quality of content did not match up to the expectations of the viewers. In addition to that, the casting members did not seem to very comfortable with their parts. Torbaaz could only be a recommendation if there’s a lot of spare time and you are tired of watching Lagaan again and again since decades.
