Sadak 2 Review – A wasted potential and lineage.

The Sadak 2 story on Hotstar is portrayed to be a sequel of the movie Sadak, released in the year 1991. Pooja Bhatt, playing the role of a prostitute and tortured by her pimp, was rescued by Sanjay Dutt (as Ravi), who had fallen in love with her. Sadak 2 opens on a different note.

Aarya is a young girl who has just few months to attain adulthood and inherit her property of huge valuation. But she is surrounded by people whose sole intention is to get her killed, and this group is strongly led by her step-mother. When attempts to get her killed do not work well, she declares Aarya a patient of acute mental illness and wants to get her admitted in a mental hospital.

Aarya’s father Yogesh Desai is unable to protect her. Aarya runs away and comes to Ravi Verma, the owner of Pooja Tours and Travels, with a taxi bill (receipt) signed by Ravi’s dead wife, years ago. She wants Ravi to drive her to Ranikhet, from where Aarya is supposed to take a helicopter and fly to Kailash. In the meantime, Aarya also requests Ravi to pick up her boyfriend Vishal from the Central Jail on their way to Ranikhet.

The displeasure sparking with the release of the trailer of Sadak 2 actually got its explanation through the film as well. The film with potential actors lacked almost everything, despite the fact that it could have actually had a lot.

Script

The script of Sadak 2 movie 2020 primarily lacked substance. A lot of it was actually left for the audience anticipation. The remaining part was not as good as a reflection of a Mahesh Bhatt film, the director who had given hits like Murder or Jannat. In short, the script of Sadak 2 is rarely free from serious bilge.

Acting

The top 3 casting members of Sadak 2 release —Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapoor, if utilised to the fullest, could have mended every loop hole that the film has with their outstanding acting skills. But sadly, they were under-utilised.

While Sanjay Dutt holds the expressions of a lumberjack throughout the film, the lady who sparked up Raazi as Sehmat carried the entire film through just a lost in thoughts look. Aditya Roy Kapoor, the actor who did so well as Omar in Guzaarish and swept hearts with glee in Aashiqui 2, did not seem to be even a part of this film. However, the supporting cast was quite good.

Priyanka Bose as the vicious step mom and Jisshu Sengupta as the feckless father, did their best to bring out at least the dark flavor of this film.

Music

Jeet Ganguly, Samidh-Urvi and Ankit Tiwari did a fine job as the music directors of Sadak 2. Melodies went well with the background scores. However, Sadak 2 songs lacked the ease and lilt of Sadak.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

With Jay I. Patel as the DOP, the work of camera gave a good treat to the eyes at times. Sandeep Kurup also worked quite well as the editor of Sadak 2 movie watch online.

Direction

Mahesh Bhatt—a name that is more than just enough to enliven emotions in the hearts of people who have been a witness to this man’s journey and bounties to the viewers like Arth, Zakhm as well as Gangster and Woh Lamhe. Sadak 2, being his brainchild, and that too a “sequel” of Sadak back in 1991, primarily lacked emotions, or to be very correct, the portrayal of emotions. It appeared as if a strainer filtered out the emotions and served the tasteless medical potion to patients suffering from fever for a long time. With the director that Sadak 2 had, with the casting members this film had, Sadak 2 could have made its way easily to the list of the best movies of 2020.
