Raita Phail Gaya Web Series – A brief look at the Generation gap that we encounter.

The new mini web series Raita Phail Gaya on MX Player is a story of four friends actively enjoying their bachelor’s life in their bachelor pad. Many of us can relate to the series as it touches the relevant pieces of our life in our 20s. The kind of happiness that we feel being around our friends, passion, and high level of freedom are the aspects that the series covers during its entire 6 episode journey.

‘Raita Phail Gaya’ meaning in Hindi is ‘events gone out of control’ in a funny coloquial sense.

The story revolves around Shankey (Sahil Chabbra), Harry (Sumit Manak), Debu( Samrat Sehgal), and Tony who are best friends living together in an apartment in Mumbai. They enjoy their life to the fullest in their ways and also are having a garbled lifestyle. Sapna (Nishi Singh) who is Shankey’s girlfriend and Aayat (Aavani Arora), the girlfriend of Harry visits them and also stays with their boyfriends on various occasions. The plot of the story takes an interesting turn when Shankey’s father, Chunnilal (played by Ajay Paul) comes to visit his son, and being a traditional, typical Indian parent he is against relationships and living together before marriage. He is a representative of all those parents who want to inculcate the old beliefs and traditions of our cult and is totally against the western lifestyle that the present generation is following.

Chunnilal is disappointed by the disoriented lifestyle of his son and asks him to join him in his return journey to his village. When Chunnilal was about to leave there comes Vidya, Harry’s Aunt, to stay a few days with him. Chunnilal is smitten with Vidya and decides to stay along with her so that he could win her heart. The series manages to showcase every scene with a comedy element and entertains the viewer in terms of that, but still, it doesn’t satisfy the mere expectations of the audience in terms of quality of screenplay and direction. We can also encounter the love triangle of Chunnilal, Vidya, and Lalchand, a landlord who also has affection for her. The adult romance and satirical turn of relationships engage the viewers.

With the usual theme of role reversals and complex tread of love and relations, the story is quite predictable. Confusion arises when Chunnilal finds Sapna in the house and Shanky who is afraid whether the truth may hurt his father’s feelings says that she is Debus wife and there begins a whole different drama and finally the show ends up with Chunnilal who was an epitome of Indian traditions accepting the perspective of his son and also Vidya realizes his love for him and ties the knot.

Direction and Screenplay

Abhishek Pareek has made all efforts to make the show a dramedy and picturized all scenes as a burst of laughter. But the unnecessary filling of erotic elements just for the sake of increased viewership makes the series a bland one. We may feel the episodes as a bit noisy without proper collaboration within the cast, but the humor in the story eradicates the disinterest that one may feel. The entire series is shooted in a house and doesn’t involve any outdoor scenes.

Acting

Ajay Paul never disappoints the audience, his excellent performance saves the show and grabs its fine pieces together. Sahil Chabbra and Sumit Manak show promising performance and yet they are not satisfactory for a better experience than we expect.

Still, the show can make you laugh and at the same time make you think about the social gap that we have with our elders and how we should take a stand to make them understand the change in the modern era. Pareek presents this idea in a very simple manner and this leaves you to have a stress free visual experience filled with drama and comedy.
