I Was Not Ready Da review- Where seasoning overshadows the main course

I Was Not Ready Da Amazon Prime is a comedy show both hosted and performed by Aravind Sa. His first comic show on the same platform, Madrasi Da, was a huge success. After such a successful OTT Comic show, the expectation from I Was Not Ready Da had its bars set high. But somewhere between substance and style, the latter has been given more preference in I Was Not Ready Da.

The show begins with Aravind addressing his audience, his audience from Chennai. He points out the fact that since on his last show, his medium of performance was Tamil, he was recognized as a Tamil comedian. And hence in this show, he would be performing completely in English. He also raises the question garbed in absolute derision, that when the comedians from North India perform in Hindi, they are recognized by default as an Indian comedian.

I Was Not Ready Da lacks a lot of potential content that could have made the life out of the series. But unfortunately, the series falls flat on face.

Script: The script of I Was Not Ready Da is definitely not one of the best scripts keeping in mind the way comedy has flourished on television. Monotony sparked off with repetition of the same idea, with little difference in representation.

Acting: Aravind Sa, the heart and soul of the show, actually gave his absolute best. His way of delivery, charged up body language and presence of high energy in his voice modulation, made his performance a complete package of entertainment. The bland content was actually compensated by his strong performance.

Music: Music for I Was Not Ready Da show was nothing of the bewitching kind. But it supported the mood of the show in a good way.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing: Cinematography for I Was Not Ready Da was again quite ordinary, but the balance of light and shadow created the ambience of a live comedy show in an auditorium in a very good way. Editing was also quite good as far as the binding of the show is concerned.

Direction: The making of I Was Not Ready Da required a lot of professional deftness in order to make the show a little more interesting. The light-heartedness of a comic show did not get enough exposure in the series. Especially after Madrasi Da, this show can’t be called a complete success. The quality of jokes in today’s date, where stand-up comedy has gone so high, are expected to be of a certain standard. But I Was Not Ready Da failed in that as well. However, considering the performance of Aravind Sa, this show is worth giving a watch.
