Cargo Netflix 2020 movie Review – An introduction of a novel genre to Hindi Web Films

CARGO Netflix  India is a unique blend of Indian mythology and sci-fi.

The concept of the film is rare and innovative with many emotional elements that every viewer can relate to. Cargo Netflix movie deals with themes like reincarnation in a very unpredicted manner.

The story has incorporated the Indian mythological element of ‘Rakshasa’ or demon in a modern manner. As the name of the film cargo refers to the dead who are transported to space for the post-life transformation .

The film stars Vikrant Massey as Prahasta, a demon, who works in a spaceship named Pushpak 634A. Prahasta welcomes the dead from the earth as cargo and heals them both physically and mentally. He wipes off their memories and makes them ready for a new life like a newborn for another world.

Prahasta was not happy with his monotonous life and is fed up with his daily ritual of repairing human beings. He has been lonely and away from other fellow beings for more than 70 years. Meanwhile, a new assistant, Yuvishka (played by Shweta Tripathi) is hired and arrives at Pushpak. Yuvishka is a chirpy and extroverted person with a dedicated mind and she excels in her job.

Direction and Screenplay

The director and scriptwriter, Arati Kadav with her extraordinary imagination made the script unique in its perspective. Though it’s her directorial debut she didn’t fail to imprint a unique mark in the industry with her powerful narration.Though there are some flaws in the script like focusing on only the two central characters and also missed the elements like the bond and human relationships that a man loses by his death is not perfectly portrayed in the film. CARGO focused on sci-fi but missed to touch the emotional aspect that audiences yearn for.

We can relate to the situation of Prahasta, who simply leads a robotic life but at the same time, we cannot gather much about his past and what made him choose the monotonous life he lived. There is an exploration of humor in some scenes where the dead comes to Pushpak and interacts with Prahasta.

The film is not up to the mark in terms of quality of the graphics used and it could be made more like a fantasy rather than a science fiction yet it can be considered as a good move from Kadav’s part to expose the audience to an entirely alienated concept not experimented by many in the Indian film industry.

Performances

The central characters played by Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi don’t disappoint us, they have added the flavors of their natural acting skills in each and every scene of the movie. Also, Nandhu Madhav took a great effort to maintain the comical part of the film. The chemistry of the leads intrigues the audience to stick to the couch and enjoy every bit of it. Massey is successful in depicting and executing the pain of solitude his character faced in the film and Tripathi nailed in grabbing the attention of the audience with her optimistic and fascinating performance.

Music

Shezan Shaikh was conscious in composing the track observing the plot, for the entire movie deals with a completely strange story the tracks have to suit it as well.

Overall Cargo Netflix 2020 is worth your time, though it has some flaws which can be resolved by the amazing and distinguished plot of the film. All of us will be excited to explore a different perspective of life after death, the film challenges the stereotypical notion of hell and heaven as per our Indian culture. Kudos to the director who forces the viewer to think out of the box.
