Pubgoa Review – A Sci-Fi Crime thriller
Pubgoa is a sci-fi thriller with crime as main component. It tells about the drug culture in goa, and also about subjects like terrorism and minority’s life.
Pubgoa has two stories. A shootout happens to be at a rave party in Goa, where also a group of video game makers are a part of. Police declare it as a terrorist attack and everybody in the video game group get killed, except two. Everything is blamed on a person named Faisal. Aadhira aka Vimala is in charge of the case.
The other story is that of a man who is searching for his girlfriend, who has escaped the shootout alive. Faisal who is the main suspect is shot down by Vimala. This is where, the role of varun fits in, but he is in memory loss condition, who only speaks about Maya, the video game they are building.
It’s the video game which is about fitting in the world realties into it. There is more to it, which can be revealed while watching through the series.

Aadhira aka vimala is a serious person with emotional past, and is pained about it, as a cop she is determined to solve the case, and comes across as a strong personality. Dev aka varun comes across as very skilled actor with much more potential, and looking forward for more good performances from them. Ayra aka kavya fits to the role. Casting is the highlight of movie.
Laxmi narayan direction is good, easy and seems effortless without, many flaws.
Editing
Editing by Ignatius aswin is good, as not many scenes are redundant and not very stretched anywhere.
Music
Santhan anebajangane’s music gets out the emotions of the movie live, excellent sound designing skills by sarath , and harish as sound mixing gives the right feel to the movie.
Direction
The movie has a simple story, but the progress of the same is bulk of it and has lot of depth and branches. Multiple characters and sets add to the chaos to the movie.
It is touted as first virtual reality thriller movie.
Director brings up the entire movie’s situations in good way that it fits the places well and that is commendable. Movie joins all the pieces together slowly and each character and situation reveal to the story.
The narration gets little chaotic and predictable somewhere, call it as intended sometimes.
There is a subplot to the movie, which is the strong point, the main plot and subplot merge and this is what forms into a series for Pubgoa.
Revealing or unfolding of the movie is very predictable at times, which is a weak point of movie.
Connecting the subplots, investigation by cop, and suspense makes the movie watchable.
Cinematography
Cinematography by kartik thillai is good
Verdict
Go for it, if you like the Sci-fi movies, can be watched once.
