C U Soon Movie Review – A strong message for the virtual life that we live.

C U Soon story starts with Jimmy Kurien (Roshan Mathew) and Anumol Sebastian (Darshana Rajendran) who meet each other on an online dating platform, Tinder and gradually evolve their online relationship. Kevin Thomas (Fahadh Fasil), a cybersecurity professional who is a cousin of Jimmy, learns more about Anu and assures Jimmy’s mother that Anu is a perfect bride for her son. The film takes an interesting turn when Anu’s so-called family gets to know about their relationship.

After many twists and turns, Anu goes missing and police arrest Jimmy charging kidnapping. This makes Kevin upset who was already stressed out with his professional downfalls. Kevin utilizes his skills to crack all the codes of social media and easily finds out about the fake identity of Anu.

The story of the mystery girl is unveiled when Kevin with help of his friend hack Anu’s accounts and gets to know she is a representation of thousands of girls trapped in the sex racket of Dubai who was given false promises of high salary jobs.

Jimmy, fed up with his regular monotonous office chores, wanted a friend or a partner to share his loneliness and this made him fall for Anu who is unknown to him. The film portrays the life that we live within the short screen of our Smartphone, the reality of virtual connections which we easily establish with each other. Meanwhile, Anu is a victim of the situations, a survivor who never gives up hope and maintains her will power. We can also see the interesting friendship Kevin shares with his colleague Sanjana (Amaalda Liz), who helps to gather and know more about Anu, which makes the major part of the story.

The Malayalam film industry always comes up with its innovative ideas which makes them unique in the Indian cinema. Even when the entire industry stands still before the pandemic, they have created the first computer-based film of Kerala. The super Jodi Fahad-Nazriya decided to make C U Soon as an eye-opener of the traumas and reality of the virtual world.

SCRIPT

Besides being a mystery film the film holds a strong message for the virtual generation. In this world of blue ticks, videos, and last scenes we often forget to look deeply into the realistic aspects of life. Even the pandemic has made us completely digital and all we do to connect our emails and video calls. The script of the film traverses through different realms and shades of life. Mahesh Narayan with his unique storytelling talent makes the viewers stick to their chair for one and a half hours.

DIRECTION AND SCREENPLAY

Mahesh Narayan breaks the conventional direction methods and his experiment is a complete success.The locations of filming included an apartment and a hotel of Kochi with about 20 crew members. As a director it was challenging for him to manage the set obeying the COVID protocols. He has put all efforts to create the Arab world ambiance into the audience and with the limited characters and crew he made the film an unparalleled one.

MUSIC

The film doesn’t have any songs but Gopi Sundar’s tracks are enough to immerse ourselves into the emotions conveyed in every scene.

ACTING

From Roshan Andrews to Ammalda Liz every artist showed complete justice to their character. Darshana Rajendran stole the frame with her excellent acting skills, Anumol is a reflection of those ordinary girls who are forced to forget their dreams and become the prey of the vultures of the negative world, she has created a deep impact in the heart of the audience from a mystery girl to a survivor, Mahesh managed to take a quick deviation which makes the film noteworthy.

Kevin, played by Fahadh fassil is indeed a different kind of man who gives importance to his personal space and integrity, his character is the pillar of the story and also a humorous one. Roshan Mathews again nailed the show with his anxiety-inducing performances and being a helpless man who lost his love for several times.

The film is a one time watch for sure and I assure you that this will glue you to your chair with its romantic, mysterious, thriller and intriguing plot.
