AK vs AK Review – What if films were real?

AK vs AK Netflix proves to the masses that Bollywood is no more a journey of stereotypes. There are varieties of films—one just needs to identify them and cater to one’s choice of movies. This movie is basically the abbreviation of Anurag Kashyap vs Anil Kapoor or vice versa. The film opens with Anil Kapoor being late for a family reunion and making thigs as fast as he can in his own lavish vanity van. Anurag Kashyap arrives with the script of a film and has no plan to return without getting a yes from Kapoor. Denying to work on his script, when Anil Kapoor humiliates him in public, Kashyap returns enraged, but a plan hits him.

Soon, Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor gets abducted and Anurag Kashyap then offers Kapoor to enact his script in a day, with Anil Kapoor racing against time and then finally reaching out and rescuing his own daughter. But the only difference was that, there was no acting involved. Anil Kapoor had to enact the script in reality, get into scuffle on streets, actually face the hardships that are normally shown in the film, and then finally reach his daughter.

This is a film that pulls out a section of reality in the most dramatic way possible.

Script

The script complements the plot quite well. In terms of dialects and diction, the script defines the characters with good work of detailing. The script also upheld the justification of the special touch of makeup and costumes. There was punch, there was substance, and most importantly, there was context in the script.

Acting

Anil Kapoor was amazing with his performance. The same freshness of films like Beta and Tezaab in the past, the same enragement of Naayak—all clubbed up well and served well in this beautiful platter of brilliant performances. Anurag Kashyap was on the rough side—and portrayed his part in the most perfect way possible. The narration of Nawazuddin Siddiqui added a special seasoning to the flavor of this film.

Music

Music was not at par with the other aspects. The lack of apt music sometimes made the film go bland at places. But the power in performance lifted up the film wherever necessary.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

Cinematography is another aspect whether the movie had the scope for betterment. A lot more attention to the angles of camera was needed for such a significant film in Bollywood. Editing was good, though a little more sharpness was required at places.

Direction

Vikramaditya Motwane’s detailed directorial approach towards AK vs AK is worthy of appreciation. Characterisation was extremely well-defined. In addition to an eventful script, Motwane also kept a note of equally complementing screenplay for a powerful profuction like AK vs AK.
