Dracula Sir Review – A disease imposed by the society on a differently abled harmless man

Dracula Sir Bengali movie on Hoichoi is a psycho-thriller with an interesting plot. Raktim Chowdhury is a loner in the city of Kolkata. He works on a meagre wage as a temporary Bengali teacher in a school, where the students make fun of him and call him Dracula Sir. All of us have given names to our teachers at some point of life, if not so, at least enjoyed the names given by other students. But “Dracula Sir” is not a usual name that is given by students to a teacher. The reason for Raktim’s name to be so unique lied in his teeth. The two canines on his upper jaw were longer and sharper, just like those of carnivorous animals. Hence the name given by his students.

Raktim gets humiliated for his unusual teeth continuously, not only by his students but also by his colleagues, landlord and neighbours. His landlord, Bhuvan is a complete lech, who financially supports Sabita, a widow along with her son Bultai, but in return continues to socially exploit Sabita every night. When Bultai pleads his mom to come and put him to sleep, Bhuvan compels Raktim to come and scare Bultai with his teeth so that Bultai sleeps fast all by himself.

Raktim is then compelled to act as a vampire in one of the Bengali films, the director of which was the son of one of the trustee members of the school in which Raktim worked. While pretending to bite the heroine on the neck, Raktim actually bit the heroine and blood spurred out from her side-neck. Obviously enough, Raktim loses his job. Next day when he again finds Bhuvan tormenting Sabita, he gathers all his courage, goes up to Bhuvan and bites him the same way, in all the more ferocious way. Bhuvan eventually dies. But since then, Raktim transcends into Amol, a Naxalite during the year of 1970 Naxal movement. Raktim believes that he was Amol in his earlier birth and Manjari was his lover. But when it came to choose between revolution and love, Amol chose the former and Manjari got married to someone else, who also died soon, leaving Manjari as a young widow devoid of kids and love. Within some time, Amol came to take shelter in the terrace room of Manjari’s house after fleeing from the police. Raktim continues to imagine himself as Amol and then his treatment began, giving the story an absolutely different angle.

Dracula Sir full movie is a story of pressure that is imposed on a differently abled man by the society, just because he has a pair of extra-large and extra sharp canines.

Script

The script of Dracula Sir is essentially meaty, with the substance of thrill filling every word of the script. Raktim and Amol—the demarcation is quite steep and hence the diction also differs to some extent. Manjari’s dialogues have also been framed in an excellent way.

Acting

Anirban Bhattacharya ruled the film with his deft acting skills. Sometimes he was Amol, sometimes he was Raktim, sometimes he was the Dracula, and sometimes he was just somebody, probably Anirban himself. His way of biting as a vampire would give chills down your spinal cord and the peace reflected in his face whenever he met Manjari, was as serene as enjoying a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee in a winter evening. Saayoni Ghosh was excellent in her short screen presence. Rudranil Ghosh was absolutely stunning, befitting the character of Katu in the best possible way.

Music

Ariyan Mehedi and Rohan Roy worked really hard to bring out the real flavour of Dracula Sir through music. Music took the film to another level.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

The beautiful work of cinematography brings back the flavour of Bengal in the 70s to some extent through delectable work of camera, thereby giving an eccentric touch to Dracula Sir. The sharp yet consistent editing skills of Sanglap Bhowmik also adds to the theme and agenda of the film.

Direction

Debaloy Bhattacharya served to be a great director for Dracula Sir. He kept a good detailing of the scenes, thereby enhancing the characterisation of the entire film. The execution was dark, scary but dangerously beautiful. Utilising Anirban Bhattacharya to the fullest, bringing back Mimi Chakraborty into her debut of Pupe were nothing less than a challenge. Direction and performance were at their peaks of perfection. Overall, Dracula Sir is a must watch for all who love thrillers.
