Comali Movie Review – Nostalgic, well-humored, melodramatic movie.
Comali in Tamil language means “clown”, it’s a Tamil movie dubbed as Telugu movie. Ravi aka Jayam Ravi goes into a coma state for a period of 16 years, how the world changes around him. And when he wakes up what is in store for him is the plot of the movie.
Ravi in his 90’s is a final year of sophomore and excited about clearing the year, anytime we talk about nostalgia especially school to college going era it always has a kick. Mani aka Yogi babu is Ravi’s friend, he is the one who has lent comedy in plenty to the film in first half, There are many Punch lines for yogi in this movie! This makes him the entertainer of the movie. The movie goes forward now where; Ravi loves Samyukta hegde and proposes her, just sometime before he meets with accident.
First half of the movie is all about the 90’s nostalgia. And sometimes too much of it, but what is to be appreciated here is the narration which is excellent. KS Ravikumar is the one who is responsible for accident. Later he is shown as big gangster as the movie marches ahead. Ravi while in coma is being taken care by Mani’s family. Mani is married to Ravi’s sister . The first half of the movie is very good, but does not stay so in the second half, it not only distracts from the story told so far but looses the seriousness.
There is a subplot to the movie which is unrelatable; the movie just gets into the climax and then is dragged a lot. Film gets too preachy too at times, Lot of melodrama and uneven story spoils the later half; it just survives with few scenes to end. Kajal Agarwal has not much to do in the movie, but whatever she has got she just manages to do it. Samyukta Hegde looks neat throughout the movie.
Jayam Ravi has done the transition role of 90’s to 2016 very well, this is the best part of showcasing Ravi’s acting abilities.

Comedy does not appeal to all the audience at a time; it’s a bouncer for few. Not all may understand the comedy all the time.
Music
Music is Decent and to remember for sometime, especially in the later half as back ground music.
Direction
Art director has done a good job in showing the transition from 90’s to this era, Chennai flood scenes are shown well, good vfx done looks cool.
It’s the director’s debut film, he does it well in terms of narration and story, but just the last half could have been handled well.
Dubbing
Dubbing has been done well, well understood movie.
Editing
Editing is good, to the point.
Verdict
It’s a good movie especially the transition phase of movie, nostalgia part captured well. Can be watched with family, entertaining, message oriented movie.
