Mismatched Netflix Review: Is this really how teenage life goes?

Mismatched on Netflix talks about a love at first sight caramel love story that is often thought to be very prevalent for the teenage age group. But the connection of the story with reality needs to be checked seriously before even thinking of going for the Mismatched web series 2020.

The basic plot is adapted from Sandhya Menon’s “When Dimple Met Rishi”. Well, the Indian youth these days very often claims themselves to be bibliophiles just by reading Chetan Bhagat or Durjoy Dutta. And Mismatched would definitely take you back to the level of literature and depth of emotions that some of the books from such writers’ desks project in the world. Rishi is a man, rather a boy studying in college who had a disturbed childhood because of the incompatibility issues between his parents. So, just at the age of 18 he decides that he wants to have a perfect marriage and stays alert while in search of his “future wife”. And finally, he meets a girl Dimple, in his own college. Dimple is not shown, but just known to be a great coder who doesn’t understand any language except Java. And then the love at first sight tale begins, with the man making every big and small attempt to impress the love of his life and his perfect counterpart for a perfect marriage.

Mismatched is a tale of prediction that fails to counter its affinity to escape from reality.

Script

The script of Mismatched doesn’t really invest a lot of creativity and emphasis on the dialogue framing of characters. What it basically does is perfect maintenance of the diction of each and every character. These dictional variances come out as the demarcations and give each character its own shape.

Acting

Rohit Saraf does a fairly good job. With limited scope for the display of his skills, he manages pretty well to at least try to cover up for the dreadful execution of the film. Prajakta Koli was also quite good. She picked up her character very well and her dialogue delivery also added to her good performance.

Music

It is difficult to say that music and background scores played a very big role in the web series. With Anurag Saikia as the music supervisor, some more exposure could have been given to music in Mismatched.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

Good cinematography is not about taking the best angles in great locations. It is also about making an ordinary location look special and beautiful, especially in a web series like Mismatched. In a world where gangster films and web series are shot so well, a much better performance was expected from Milind Jog and Avinash Arun as the directors of photography of Mismatched. But Pooja Pillai did a fairly good job as the editor of the series.

Direction

Nipun Dharmadhikari and Akarsh Khurana’s work as the directors of Mismatched series is obviously questionable to a large extent. Presenting something which is absolutely predictable is not the real issue. But highlighting a particular trait which is quite common among the college students as the special trait of only one individual, appears to be very funny. Moreover, except the millennial group of central characters and next leads, no other students have been shown to exist. The overall directorial approach to the series is quite disappointing for the viewers.

Mismatched Netflix Season 2 may be in the offing.
