Khaali Peeli movie review – लफड़ा बोले तोह अलग लेवल का। 

Zee5 originals movie Khaali Peeli 2020 is a punch of different brands of wine and other alcoholic drinks, served in a new bottle—with no full flavour of any of its ingredients. The story barely has anything much to talk about. Starting with unconventional names—Blackie is a taxi driver based in Mumbai. He is pretty much sorted with his average life style and doesn’t have much quest for more.

But then as usual, a lady bumps into him. Pooja is a girl running away from a bunch of goons. But how did she get herself into such a mess? Well, that was not given a clear context in the story. Because the most important motto is to make Blackie and Pooja meet, by hook or by crook.

The story takes its pace of a fun ride. It is fun to watch Khaali Peeli, but at the same time, at this date, where online feature releases and web series are ruling the market of entertainment, it is not a wise decision to let go of Khaali Peeli without adding substance to it. The funniest part of the story is that when the duo are engaged in hide and seek with the goons in a local fair.

Script

The script of Khaali Peeli lacks its substance. Neither does it give the story any context, nor does it help in any way to build up a strong characterisation. In addition to that, the diction has been seriously challenged for both the central characters of the film—Blackie and Pooja.

Acting

It’s better not to talk about Ananya Panday’s “acting skills” as reflected in Khaali Peeli Zee5 movie. By God’s grace, the character of Pooja didn’t have any serious angle to it. Ishaan Khattar somewhat tries to make a difference by his hard work, but his lingo and its artificial use makes him fall flat on face. Paatal Lok’s Jaideep Ahlawat does his job very well—with a perfect blend of rawness and refinement.

Music

Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani—where Vishal-Shekhar is there for music, it is definite that some good music would definitely strike your way in the journey of Khaali Peeli. But again, this performance can never be counted as one of the good performances of Vishal-Shekhar, forget about the incredible ones.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

Adil Afsar did an excellent job as the DOP of Bebaakee. He utilised every frame and made it look exotic. Ejaz Shalkh did a great job as the editing team of Khaali Peeli.

Direction

Maqbool Khan’s directorial approach to the film lacked a lot of strength and focus on the objective. The lingos of the central characters were not adequately worked upon. The supporting cast had gems and could have made a serious difference, but again they were not wisely utilised. With poor characterisation and inappropriate use of all constituents, Khaali Peeli lacked a purpose. In short, the film lacked minute direction.
