Mirzapur Season 2 Review – A celebration of perfect balance of good direction and performance.

Amazon Prime popular web series Mirzapur Season 2 is back with a bang—brighter and far more interesting with an excellent storyline that perfectly justifies the longing of the Kaleen Bhaiya fans since 2018. The story opens with magnificent cinematography—where a scorpion is focused from excellent angles—giving a warning to the merry-end lovers that this series is going to be harsh, violent and poisonous!

During the final encounter of season 1, when Munna killed Bablu and Sweety and somehow Guddu, Golu and Dimpy escaped from his clutches, it was very clear then and there that Mirzapur Season 2 story will primarily be of  revenge. And this tale of revenge is dotted with beautiful cinematic moments and climax in almost each of the 10 episodes.

However, what makes the season 2 better, is its shift from the monotony of monochromatic violence and abusive enragement. When an injured Munna takes his first step to recovery after a really long time, he dreams of getting killed by Guddu. On waking up from unconsciousness, his first question is: “Where is Guddu?”. On the other hand, Golu and Dimpy take care of Guddu in a dilapidated bungalow in a dense forest. They have kidnapped a doctor who actually has a heart of gold to make sure that Guddu gets the correct treatment. But then fate compels them to leave the place and then they move to Balia and stay in the residence of the doctor. Guddu starts recovering and gets attached to the doctor’s little daughter. While Dimpy doesn’t believe in the language of violence, Golu has closed her emotional vents after losing Bablu and Sweety. She is rough and tough, super cautious and understands only business.

The trio then seeks shelter at Lala’s place, who is a powerful opium dealer and the father of his widow daughter, Shabnam who is Dimpy’s friend. When Dimpy is sent to Lucknow in order to study, she finds love in a guy called Robin aka Radheshyam Aggarwal, who deals in finance and also helps Guddu and Golu to invest and make money. Guddu seeks power from Lala, and in return sees to it that Lala’s business in opium flourishes in Bihar, this need primarily taken care of by Golu.

Munna’s world turns somewhat smooth after the elimination of Guddu and Bablu from the gang of Tripathis. He meets the widow daughter of CM named Madhuri in the CM election rally, engages into sexual encounter and then keeping in mind the benefit of alliance, Kaaleen Bhaiya gets Munna and Madhuri married.

Before that, it turns out that Kaaleen Bhaiya cannot become a biological father and at the same time his present wife, Beena gets pregnant. Beena goes to her father-in-law and tells that this child belongs to him, while manages to call up Raja, the domestic help and her sex partner and says the same to him, ensuring her survival in Tripathi Mansion.

And then a tempest of turns of events hit the Tripathis and their empire trembles. A question keeps running throughout the series—Who will be the King of Mirzapur?

Mirzapur Season 2 Trailer

Mirzapur Season 2 will leave you enthralled in the well-defined characterized craft of story-telling. The second season has a lot more to offer than just revenge.

Script

The script of Mirzapur: Season 2 is one of the best scripts keeping in mind the much popular theme of the series. Monotony sparked off with the same tone and diction of verbal abuse, but then the witty replies and dialogues canopied them with no flaw left.

Acting

Ali Fazal was again as amazing as the first season. But if you are here for the powerhouse of acting for Mirzapur Season 2, then that title surely goes to Rasika Dugal. She gets into the nerves of her character and brings out Beena Tripathi as a viscious woman, out to seek back some dignity in her undignified existence in her own household.

Divyendu Sharma played with emotions this time. The innocence in his eyes sometimes gave serious challenge to the acceptance of the audience that this man can get the blood of another unarmed man spilled out on the floor with no mark on his forehead.

The chemistry between Munna and Golu was brought out in an excellent way.

Pankaj Tripathi effortlessly the ‘Kaaleen Bhaiya’, wins hearts again with his expressions and silence, manifested so much that there was no need of additionally powerful dialogues for him.

The new characters of this Season , Sharad Shukla (played by Anjum Sharma) , Doctor ( Played by Dibyendu Bhattacharya), enchant with their seemless fit into the story.

Music

Music by John Stewart Eduri is less than just amazing. Starting from the title screens to the background scores, everything was perfect for the music of a show like Mirzapur.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

Had Mirzapur Season 2 been a film, Sanjay Kapoor would have had a strong possibility to win the award for best cinematography. His work is absolutely incredible—specially the way he shot the detailed movements of the scorpion is beyond just appreciation. Anshul Gupta and Manan Mehta did an equally excellent job. It seemed that 10 episodes just passed by with no need for a break at all.

Direction

Mihir Desai and Gurmeet Singh as the directors of Mirzapur did a delectable work, especially in the second season. The manifestation of Munna’s emotions, the emptiness in the bonding of the Tripathi family, the mention and narration of Bablu’s diary—nothing more could have made Mirzapur a better production than what it already got. Mirzapur Season 2 is a project of balance, coupled with theme, power and unpredictable turn of events.
