Comedy Couple Zee5 Review – A potential plot losing its gravity along the way.

The story of Zee5 originals production Comedy Couple Zee5 new movie 2020 undoubtedly comes with a lot of freshness and hence manages to impress the audience with its uncommon theme. Deep and Zoya form a modern couple, tied to each other through lots of fresh emotion and a live-in relationship. In this world, where to become lovable is no less than cracking a tough contest, Zoya falls for Deep because he is not extra-ordinary, he is a common man.

The couple aspires to be India’s first and most successful comic duo. The blend of comedy and love has entertained people from the ages of Raj Kapoor. But what adds as a seasoning in Comedy Couple is the spicy touch of lies. Deep, the protagonist of the film is none but a habitual liar. He undoubtedly loves Zoya, but can’t give up on his lies—specially when it comes to his passion. The plot of the story is undoubtedly interesting, but then the execution doesn’t give a true colour to the movie.

Comedy Couple starts off quite well with its unique theme, loses to mediocrity in the middle way and finally picks up in the final 20-30 minutes very well.

Script

The script of Comedy Couple has nothing large to offer. It succeeds in delivering the primary theme of the series. But a good script has indelible contribution in the characterisation of each part. Comedy Couple’s script lacks that to a good extent.

Acting

The supporting cast of Comedy Couple actually kept up with the bright shades of the movie. After seeing Rajesh Tailang in Bandish Bandits, its was a treat to the eyes to watch him deliver the character of Mukesh with exquisite ease. Pooja Bedi on the other hand was outstanding with her character as Zohra Batra. Aadar Malik also did a great work at Rohan. Shweta and Saqib swirled up a great chemistry, but their involvement into the characters only got manifested towards the fag end of the movie.

Music

Karthik Rao and Ravi Singhal were absolutely amazing in delineating the movie through appropriate background scores. It is a mis-conception that music doesn’t count much when comedy is there. Good work of music reflects the most during situations of challenge—where opportunity of incorporating music are minimal. That’s when crispy, brief pieces of melody work wonders.    

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing

The cinematography of Comedy Couple is simply outstanding, with Riju Das as the DOP. Special effects were also quite good. Abhishek Seth’s work as the editor of Comedy Couple is worthy of appreciation.

Direction

Inclination towards predictability was not the issue with Comedy Couple. The primary issue was lack of a proper directorial approach. It is true that the theme as well as the plot was unique and contained distinctiveness with a lot of vivacious flavour. But as the story progressed, the execution of the tale in the form of an unbearable romantic drama didn’t go well. The ending part of the movie contained a lot of cinematic moments and real substance, but that was just not enough to justify the 90-minute-long drama driving the film. A better directorial approach was expected from Nachiket Samant as the director of Comedy Couple.
