Wakaalat from Home Review – The series is laden with the sweetness of comedy, having a somewhat serious message to deliver—Life is only the present, so live and enjoy.

Wakaalat from Home Amazon Prime web series is a good project as far as the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned. However, the primary backbone of the tale can be defined with a one-liner very easily. Sujin and Radhika are a happily married couple since the past 10 years, with a relationship of eight long years before their marriage, beginning straight from the school days.

While Radhika is a good journalist now laid off from her company, Sujin is known to be a struggling actor and quite an average model. But things get bitter between them lately and then they decide to get divorced. Due to the pandemic, the entire hearing goes on a recorded video conference, where Radhika lives in the apartment which is registered in the name of Sujin’s paternal grandmother.

On the other hand, Sujin gets stuck in a place and both the lawyers of Sujin and Radhika connect together with their clients. The first 4-5 episodes focus on the clearance of facts. It comes out that Radhika believes that Sujin is having an affair with a lady while Sujin is under the misconception that Shilpi, Radhika’s best friend is one of the female love interests of Radhika and accuses her to be a lesbian and hence, not enough interested in their marriage.

In addition to the cute feuds of the couple, their respective lawyers, Lobo and Rajni also get into conflicts. The series is laden with the sweetness of comedy, having a somewhat serious message to deliver—life is only the present, so live and enjoy.

Script

The script of Wakaalat from Home is one of the main aspects that required important attention. It is true that Wakaalat from Home is out and out a quarantine project. But to have a good script, it is not very important to have outdoor shoots. The dialect and diction did not have major scope to offer for experimenting. But the substance of the script undoubtedly lacked the filling of context and the spontaneity of conversations in practical life.

Acting

Both Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh managed to build up the chemistry pf a couple who does not express their love directly, but make the audience feel a different taste of satisfaction in reminiscing their good old days, and that too just from the video conference calls on screen. Kubbra Sait did a good work as Rajni, although her character needed a little more detailing. Gopal Dutt spiced up the show with his freshness and more natural behaviour. He completely fitted into the skin of Radhika’s Lobo Da, rather than Advocate Tiwari.

Direction

Wakaalat from Home on prime is a good project as far as the lockdown factor is concerned. But there was quite a good scope for much better direction. The judge could have been introduced at least in the midway of the series, because he was the primary character who managed to bring a lot of life in the story. The series was made to serve comedy. But the screenplay was quite impractical. Invasion of privacy and referring to it constantly, and that too the private life of a lawyer—this is quite disgraceful to the entire profession of advocacy. However, the purpose of the series was good, and that is also important. But after quarantine releases like Case Jaundice and Pabitra Puppies on Hoichoi, Home Stories on Netflix and Wrong Number (Season 2) on YouTube, a lot more was expected from Wakaalat from Home as it came from the house of Amazon Prime.
