Hostages Season 2 review – A predictable story of needless efforts

Hostages Season 2 India begins right from the part where Season 1 was left off. Prithvi had held a doctor and her family as hostages so as to get hold of the Chief Minister, Kushwant Lal Hand, whom he managed to kidnap for the treatment of his wife. His wife was also the illegitimate daughter of the CM. A bone marrow transplant operation was the only option to save the life of Prithvi’s wife.

The second season of Hostages begins with a lot of hardships. As soon as Prithvi and his motley gang of kidnappers leave Gurgaon with some new members, problems start creeping in. The one who actually held hostages, has now become a hostage himself, along with his team. The crew ends up holed in a dilapidated shabby building and is surrounded by the ATS. While ATS chief Karnail Singh takes the lead, police negotiator Ayesha also arrives in no time. This time, demands are made from the other side and some of them are fulfilled, while some are simply kept hanging. Along with murder mysteries and work politics in the Intelligence Bureau, Hostages Season 2 India is a game that runs on absolute predictability with no scope of uniqueness.

Hostages Season 2 after its not-very-extra-ordinary season 1 does not show much betterment but takes the opposite route. This makes the entire series with good performance unnecessarily long and devoid of a practical approach.

Script

The script of Hostages Season 2 does manage to show some spark in the otherwise monotonous and lengthy episodes of the series. The dialogues are laden with sharpness with most of Prithvi’s words marked with a lot of intensity. With apt dialect and diction, the script doesn’t stand out to be out of place as far as the context and subject of the series is concerned.

Acting

Kanwaljit Singh did a fairly good job as the ATS chief Karnail Singh. Although he played the role of the chief, Divya Dutta was the main focus here as Ayesha. But that seldom affected Singh’s performance. He utilized every scope of presentation pretty well. Divya Dutta, normally known for the different shades of characters that she plays on screen, doesn’t give an exceptionally good performance in Hostages Season 2. Thereby disappointing the expectations of her admirers. Ronit Roy as usual rules the show with his intense expressions coupled with plaintive manifestations of his dilemnatic situations.

Music

Background scores have been really engaging and appropriate as far as the plot and moments were concerned. The sound designers have made an intelligent blend of music by not letting the scores surpass the dialogue delivery of the actors, which is a common problem in many web series and movies these days.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing:

Given a series like Hostages Season 2, cinematography required a lot of focus and it undoubtedly did get that focus. Angles of the camera could have been no better, perfectly paying justice to the resources that were available. However, the editing of the series stands to be one of the most important negative points of Hostages Season 2. 12 episodes could have been easily shortened to at least 8, or even less. The lack of attention in the editing department not only makes the series needlessly long, but also affects the binding of the series to a noticeable degree.

Direction

Sachin Krishn and Sudhir Mishra could have made a great team as far as the Hostages Season 2 is concerned. The over implementation of emotional moments and scenes have not only hampered the entire presentation of the series but also have made a grave impact on the digression of the series from the main theme. Blurting out abusive languages in front of Government owned buildings and that too by an experienced police officer is not impractical but also highly unusual and not at all contextual to the subject. However, with good performances and skills, Hostages Season 2 manages to be a watchable web series on Disney+Hotstar.
