Rishi Kapoor – Taapsee Pannu starrer Mulk (2018 Theatre Release) is a hard-hitting Social Drama Series which bring to discussion some of the unstated, lesser discussed, rolled under the carpet until the next riot issues, that plague our country today – Social and Religious Prejudice, Racism and decades old xenophobia against a minority community.
Also brought to fore is the dilemma of a parenthood done wrong and regrets associated with it. The story unfolds in Benaras where a loving Muslim Joint Family lives in harmony in a predominantly Hindu Community, until their own son becomes responsible for a Terror attack in which several lives are lost.
The family never, and rightfully so, condones the attack. But what follows is a series of allegations involving even the innocent members of the family, who had nothing to do with the terror attack.
The prejudice meted out during investigation, social ostracism, overt respect by fundamentalists within Muslims, and most importantly, the “Us” versus ” Them” debate are some of the supremely sensitive topics dealt with, in this film.
